I'm Patricia Daly-Lipe

This is a photo taken in my library surrounded by the 10 books I have written, I am holding my latest. Also in this photo are two trophies I received from IAOTP. One is for lifetime achievement and success 2017. The other was presented to me for author of the year 2016.

Biography

Patricia Daly-Lipe was born in San Diego, California and grew up in La Jolla graduating from The Bishop’s School. She also spent time living on the other coast in Washington, D.C., the home of several generations of her mother’s family. When Patricia was 18, her mother died of cancer. She returned to Vassar College (with a year at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium) earning a B.A. degree in Philosophy.

Later, as a single parent of three children, she and her young family raised and raced thoroughbred horses (winning at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Golden Gate Fields and Del Mar racetracks) and showed in the hunter and jumper divisions at horse shows on both sides of the country.

After her children were grown, she completed a Master’s degree followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities, specializing in Creative Arts and Communication. For several years, Dr. Daly taught English and writing to university students and adults, wrote for the Evening Star Newspaper in Washington, D.C., had stories published in several magazines, and had a weekly column with Beach and Bay Press Newspaper Group in San Diego, California.

Patricia now lives in Florida with her husband (and first beau) Steele Lipe, M.D., three dogs and two horses. She is the author of eleven books, each a different genre, past President of the National League of American Pen Women, La Jolla Branch and later President of the DC Branch.

 

Here is a list of my writing history, awards and honors:

  • 1958 – I published the first student newspaper at Francis Parker School in San Diego.
  • 1960 – 1964 – I wrote for the Miscellany News at Vassar College.
  • 1962 – I was on the editorial board of a student literary magazine, Vassar College.
  • 1965 Summer – Volunteer teacher for ‘underprivileged’ children at the Children’s Hose in Georgetown, DC.
  • 1965 – Wrote obituaries for the Evening Star newspaper, Washington, DC.
  • 2002 STATE OF CALIFORNIA BOOK AWARD winner by Governor Cruz M. Bustamante Commendation to Patricia Daly-Lipe for LA JOLLA, A CELEBRATION OF ITS PAST.
  • La Jolla Pen Women; NLAPW Woman of Achievement 2004.
  • JADA Award Winning Novel FORBIDDEN LOVES, 1st runner-up-fiction, 2006.
  • 2009 “Golden Nib” Contest, Special Achievement Award, Second Place in Poetry for A POETIC MEDITATION.
  • CAMBRIDGE WHO’S WHO recognized Patricia Daly-Lipe, Ph.D. as a VIP and Recognized as an Expert Resource in the field of Creative Writing, 2010-2011.

Patricia is the past President of the National League of American Pen Women-La Jolla Branch and later President of the Washington, DC Branch. In 2007, Patricia was speaker for the National Capital District 36 Toastmasters 2007 Spring Conference. Her presentation was titled ‘The Power of Words’. The Special Achievement Award was presented to Patricia Daly-Lipe for participation in the 2009 “Golden Nib” Contest and an award of second place in poetry for “A Poetic Meditation”.

Patricia has written for the Evening Star Newspaper in Washington, DC, the Beach and Bay Press including La Jolla Village News in California, and The Georgetowner and Uptowner Newspapers in Washington, DC as well as several magazines across the country.

Her presentations have covered all aspects of writing for literary groups as well as colleges and universities.

In her “spare” time, Patricia has been rescuing thoroughbred horses. In the late ’70s and ’80s, she raised, raced and showed them.
